DOOMSDAY SUN

However you may feel about your hometown, you've (probably) never had to milk a pigeon to make a cuppa. This is the fate DOOMSDAY SUN wish to save you from, having travelled from the wastelands of what was once Great Britain to warn everyone of their impending doom, and decided that the medium of metal is the best way to get our message across.

Our music is doom-laden, harrowing-sounding, aggressive and even sometimes melancholy, generally favouring gravelly, barking vocals, copious amounts of riffs and a fuzzy, gain-rich tone to make listeners feeling like they're drowning in sonic tar. That said, clean, sung vocals are not uncommon, along with intricate melodies and proggier moments.

MEET THE BAND

Starting life as a project of Matt Hudson (Guitar & Vocals), and former bandmate Rhys, Matt was joined over the years by Tom Hubball (Drums & Vocals), Rich Oakes (Bass & Backing vocals) and Jake Dangerous (Guitar) to complete a lineup that became steadily stronger with each new member, solidified in January 2023, and has remained the same ever since.

Name: Matt Hudson
Instrument: Guitars & Lead Vocals
Species: Human/Cephalopod (research ongoing)

A human resident of a small, farming town, Matt would locate an ancient Gibson SG during an ill-fated biscuit delivery and, with nothing but an old copy of Facelift and a constant sense of dread, began making music.

This pursuit eventually took him to Stoke-On-Trent, where he’s been routinely absorbing the city’s musicians into Doomsday Sun for collaboration and the occasional bout of vivisection. He considers the current and longest-running lineup his favourite however.

FUN FACT: For some reason, Matt’s arms are getting longer whilst his legs are steadily becoming vestigial.

Name: Tom Hubball
Instrument: Drums, Lead & Backing Vocals
Monstrosity: Still currently alive

Tom is the mastermind of extreme metal act, Living Monstrosity and his love of the extreme took him to a Doomsday Sun gig one day, where he offered to replace the rogue AI on drums with something far more chaotic; himself. He’s been here ever since.

Tom is definitely most responsible for the death metal influence in Doomsday Sun and be counted on to keep things heavy. He was also once a prisoner of the DPRK and after being subjected to auditory torture for weeks on end, still suffers hallucinations of K-Pop groups to this very day, despite our best attempts to rid him of this affliction. Believe us we’ve tried.

Name: R.T.A Oakes
Instrument: Bass & Backing Vocals
Signature Move: “The Bastard Trick"™

A gentleman of obvious Italian heritage, Rich was once at a nightclub for an important meeting with his family who are definitely not part of the Hartshill mafia, when a rival family jumped them. In the ensuing scuffle, Rich was unfortunate enough to have a jukebox fall on him, which ironically, was even playing a song by Wham at the time.

Whilst recovering, Rich took up bass playing as a hobby and soon found regularly employment with a litany of bands across the wastes. He is now of course, part of Doomsday Sun, where he continues to survive marauders, disease and electrocution from dodgy instruments.

Name: Jake Dangerous

Instrument: Guitars

Transport: Shopping Trolley

As a result of a skateboarding session that went horribly wrong, Jake arrived unexpectedly in a Doomsday Sun practice in late 2022 and has been here ever since. His dedication to playing Dragonaut at least once every hour at practice has made it clear to the band that this man appreciates a good riff and can deliver them in songwriting. So far, that’s proven to be very true.

Ironically, probably the safest member of the band to hang out with, Jake’s run in Doomsday nearly ended in tragedy when a confrontation with wasteland pro wrestler; Jim “Fists That Are Literal Hammers” Hammerfist, left him physically destroyed. Happily, the rest of the band were able to use components from old guitar effects pedals to rebuild Jake, and he’s now doing better than ever.

Just needs a bit of contact cleaner once in a while.
