MEET THE BAND
However you may feel about your hometown, you've (probably) never had to milk a pigeon to make a cuppa. This is the fate DOOMSDAY SUN wish to save you from, having travelled from the wastelands of what was once Great Britain to warn everyone of their impending doom, and decided that the medium of metal is the best way to get our message across.
Our music is doom-laden, harrowing-sounding, aggressive and even sometimes melancholy, generally favouring gravelly, barking vocals, copious amounts of riffs and a fuzzy, gain-rich tone to make listeners feeling like they're drowning in sonic tar. That said, clean, sung vocals are not uncommon, along with intricate melodies and proggier moments.

“Ultimately, “A Slow Agonising Rapture” is a doom metal album that presents itself in a variation ways with clever songwriting but still bring the sonic density expected of the genre. There is a lot of talent within this band and they use it very well to create engaging music.” - Justin Wittenmeier, Doomed For Metal
“A big and satisfying ending to a big and satisfying release.” - Carl Fisher, GBHBL
OUR STORY
Starting life as a project of Matt Hudson (Guitar & Vocals), and former bassist Rhys Bryan in late 2016, the pair performed as a duo a la Godflesh, mainly because most other musicians in their hometown had succumbed to typhoid and the such. In these early years, they developed not only a sound, but also a presence, and embraced the post-apocalyptic theming in all aspects of their presentation, from the stage to social media.
In 2019, the pair impressed audience member Tom Hubball (Drums & Vocals) of death metal band, Living Monstrosity whilst performing in the ruins of Stoke-On-Trent, and this lead to him joining them. This was also the year that the band recorded their first EP; Cult Of Stasis. However, before it could see its planned March 2020 release, the entire country went into lockdown…fitting for a band themed around the apocalypse.
During lockdown, Rhys would be afflicted by a mutation in a delicate area that forced him to leave the band, and so, once the nation’s restrictions eased, the hunt for a bass player began. It would take them until the end of 2021, to find and recruit Rich Oakes (Bass, Backing Vox) the only bass player that year to live through more than one practice, and also not try to murder and cannibalise Matt and Tom. In November that year, Cult Of Stasis was finally released.
In 2022, the band traversed the wastes extensively and played at many a settlement, on one such occasion meeting Jake Dangerous (Guitar) who, whilst working sound at a venue, became interested in joining the trio. Now a four-piece, 2023 would be a busy year for the band as it saw them perform their first gigs with Jake, as well as release three singles; “Where The Hammer Lies”, “A Corpse’s Voice” and “Clean The Bones” all recorded with frequent collaborator and friend, Steve Lethal of Lethal Audio. During this time, the band developed their live show significantly, incorporating props and samples to boost audience interaction during their sets.
The band spent much of 2024 in the studio again, recording their debut album “A Slow, Agonising Rapture” which saw release in August of that year, and was followed by a small UK tour in late September/early October. Doomsday Sun are currently still actively gigging and promoting this album.
